Italian coast guard rescued 485 people in the Mediterranean



The Italian Coast Guard has rescued 485 people on Thursday in sailing dinghies in difficulty for Italy, in various operations deployed in the Mediterranean.

The Coast Guard confirmed by a message on Twitter that the bailouts were made in four different operations. In a first, 103 immigrants rescued off the coast of Libya, while in a second operation will socorrieron 113 people in the waters of the Sicilian Channel.

In the last two operations they were aided 134 and 135 people respectively, both a few miles off the coast of Lampedusa.
These rescue efforts came a day after the ships deployed by Italy and the EU in the Mediterranean attend at sea 2,800 people and 55 bodies recovered.

The good weather conditions favor the flow of immigrants from the North African coast to Italy as a gateway to Europe.


The International Organization for Migration (IOM) said that so far this year 2,000 people have died trying to cross the Mediterranean.
